There is no better time in our history and the history of the world to write “PARENT: THE PARENT I AM AND THE PARENT I WANT TO BE”.
This Book and the idea to write sterns from the fact that our societies today are going through unprecedented chaos and confusion, the like we have never seen or read about. Family, the bedrock of society is breaking up anyhow. Married Couples have set aside the “enviable” Marriage Vows they made to each other on their “glorious” wedding day, before God and their families and friends. Family separation and divorce has become rampant.
The role of parents in keeping their families together have greatly eroded. Many couples are more at war with each other thereby leaving their children, confused, divided and abandoned to their faith. The family as a source of Unity, Joy, Peace and Harmony has disintegrated; as a result, societies at large are adversely affected. Look around you, crime rates are high, communities are disintegrating, before our eyes, homes, where peace, love and harmony reigned has been falling apart. Children, today, witness more domestic violence than any other times in history. The media are filled with news about killings, threats, plots to destabilize societies. Social norms are truncated.
In the midst of such chaos and confusion, I realize that the best way to rescue the communities and society is to go back to the fundamentals of the society-The Parents!
Dysfunctional families give birth to dysfunctional communities; dysfunctional communities give birth to dysfunctional State; Dysfunctional State give birth to dysfunctional country or nation.
PARENT: THE PARENT I AM AND THE PARENT I WANT TO BE, is geared towards teaching Parents how to rebuild their families from the grassroots. It starts with Introduction, Prologue, Family Dynamics, Positive Self-talk, Communication Skills, Climbing the Ladder (which explains how conflicts start and if not controlled, may escalate into violence), Steps to Effective Parenting, PARENT, has a section on Co-Parenting Partnership. It includes an area where most parents fall victim and are exposed to the Department of Children and Family Services, whereby their children may be removed from the family for parental abuse. In order to ameliorate this, we included a section on Discipline and Punishment, then Separation and Effects of Separation or divorce on parents as well as its impact on their children, Gift of Encouragement, brings out the best in people, Marriage Vow.
