What you need to know

• The person creating original content generally starts with the rights the law gives them, subject to employment, commissioned-work or other applicable rules.
• A Pioneer should not assume it receives unlimited or perpetual use simply because it paid for a collaboration.
• The offer and deal should state the usage rights needed, including channels, duration, territory, editing, paid advertising, whitelisting or reuse where relevant.
• The creator or supplier must not grant rights they do not own or have permission to license.
• For valuable or unusual rights, both parties should take independent legal advice rather than relying on a generic marketplace explanation.
