How do profile pictures and cover images work?

Profile pictures and cover images help members recognise you. This guide explains how profile pictures and cover images work.

The Main image is the primary identity image used across ZOMZEY. Cover and supporting images build the visual profile but do not replace the Main image.

Profile pictures: what you need to know

  • Use the profile image row to add Main and supporting images.
  • Empty slots show a plus control and can be edited from the profile.
  • Twin cover images are intended for wide visual presentation at the top of the live profile.
  • Follow the size guidance shown in the editor and preview before publishing.

Main profile image

The main profile image is the picture that represents you in Discover, on the member map and on your profile. It must be a real image: a clear photo of you, your shop front, your venue or your group, not a placeholder. A published profile with a real main image and a country is what gets listed, so this is the first thing to add.

Cover images

Cover images sit across the top of your profile and show your work or your space: a window display, an event, a studio, a stage, a product shot. Use a few strong, well lit images rather than many weak ones, and keep them current with what you offer.

Practical tips

Use JPG or PNG files of a sensible size, as very large camera files can fail to upload. Make sure you have the rights to any image you use. If an upload fails, the help article on profiles not saving or images not uploading has the fixes.

Common questions about profile pictures

What size and format should profile pictures be?

A square image of around 1000 pixels on each side, saved as JPG or PNG at under 2 MB, works for the main image. Cover images suit a wide format of around 1600 by 600 pixels. Larger files are slower and more likely to fail on a mobile connection.

Can I use a logo instead of a photo for profile pictures?

Yes, a shop, venue, club or brand can use its logo, and a creator can use a photo. Whatever you choose, it must be an image you have the rights to use, which the GOV.UK copyright page below explains.

Why do profile pictures matter for Discover?

Because a published profile is only listed in Discover once it has a main image and a country. A clear, well lit image also earns more clicks from members comparing profiles.

Can I change profile pictures as often as I like?

Yes, from the profile editor, with changes shown immediately. Keep the main image consistent with your other channels so that members recognise you from one place to another.

What should cover images show?

Your work, your place or your audience: a shop front, a stage, a window display, a piece of content. Avoid text heavy images, because the cover is cropped differently on phones and desktops.

Can I use the same profile pictures on more than one account?

A band account and a member’s solo Musician account can share imagery if the people in it are the same, but each account should still look like itself so that members can tell them apart in Discover. Duplicate accounts for the same person are not allowed, so the question only arises for genuinely separate profiles.

In short, profile pictures should be square, clear and yours to use, cover images should show your work or place, and a main image plus a country is what gets a profile listed in Discover.
